Rehabilitation succesful!

My re-hab began on 4th October, with a 5 month program of strength training. In charge was Michael Myhre of Performance Centre Copenhagen. (To read the background and whole story of my journey back to Speedskating, click here).

We've now completed the 5 month program, and it has gone very well. The goal with my back condition was to get it  "as good as it's going to get". And we successfully reached that point. Function has returned, pain is much less than before, and continued re-programming exercises are teaching the muscles to relax instead of automatically respond and contract in an uncontrolled "spasm" manner every time I bend forward.

There is still work to be done, and I will continue to do strength training throughout the season. No rest for the wicked. I think strength training, and in particular Rack Pulls, are going to be a part of my life, for the rest of my life. That one exercise really seems to fix things. A magical discovery.

I would like to say a big 'thank you' to Michael, for his constant attention, support and amazing knowledge of science ("#YeahScienceBitch" as the infamous "Jessy" often said). It's Michaels  ruthless pursuit of knowledge, to find the answer, that has helped e through this difficult period, and finally come out the other side with one significant thing; I can skate again.

Right now, I'm not very fast on skates, to be honest. I didn't expect to be.  I still have work to do with my back, and on skates. But now I can work on my fitness, technique and condition on a daily basis, whereas before I began the rehab with Performance Centre CPH, I could only train once a week if I was lucky!

But Michael has given me the possibility to be fast by the summer. And this I am very grateful for.
